Admissions Consultation
At Harris Academy Chobham, we propose to make a change to the determined admisisons arrangements from 2027-2028.
Proposed change:
From September 2027, the academy will manage its own in-year admissions rather than participate in the local authority’s in-year coordination scheme.
This is the only proposed change to the admission arrangements for the 2027/2028 academic year.
Reason for the proposed change:
In recent years, schools across Newham have experienced increasing pupil mobility alongside notable changes in local population patterns. Factors including declining birth rates, housing affordability, post-COVID migration changes, and broader economic pressures have contributed to fluctuating levels of pupil demand throughout the academic year.
To ensure that places are offered efficiently, transparently and in a way that best meets the needs of local families, Harris Academy Chobham is proposing to manage its own in-year admissions process.
This would allow the academy to:
- Respond more quickly to vacancies and waiting lists
- Improve communication with families seeking places mid-year
- Ensure that in-year admissions processes are fully aligned with the academy’s organisation, capacity, and operational planning
The school will continue to comply fully with the School Admissions Code and all statutory responsibilities.
Consultation period:
The consultation will run from: Friday 19th December 2025 to Friday 31st January 2026
Your views are important to the academy and to Newham. Please read the full admissions arrangements and send any comments or feedback on the proposed change before the deadline of Friday 31st January 2026.
