Modern Foreign Languages

“If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his language that goes to his heart”.

Nelson Mandela

Our aim is to offer the opportunity to all students to discover another exciting culture and learn how to communicate in another language.

Students have 3 lessons a week. We currently teach the four skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing) in Spanish, French and Mandarin. The way we teach languages at Chobham Academy is by its nature very accessible. All students start on a level footing and it is a real opportunity for those with different needs to excel. Lessons are taught in the Target Language to immerse all students and are supported by lots of visual supports. Our students also take part in many competitions and events throughout the year to show what they can achieve with languages: after school clubs, Spelling Bee Competition, Chinese Festival Week at Chobham Academy and our French exchange to Normandy.
