Coraline Opera Trip
Around 40 children went to the Barbican on Tuesday to see the Royal Opera House’s world premiere of Mark-Anthony Turnage’s opera Coraline based on Neil Gaiman’s much-loved story. In advance of this trip, we were very impressed to hear that Mr Murrell, Fifi’s dad, arranged a shout out for us on Classic FM. At around 8.10am on Tuesday morning, Tim Lihoreau, the show’s presenter, said, “Hello to Fifi Murrell and her dad Lee who are attending the Royal Opera production of Coraline this afternoon with Chobham Academy close to the Olympic Park, we hope you enjoy that” — how exciting to get a mention herd by the 1.9 million listeners for Tim’s show! The show was entirely sung in operatic style which was a new experience for the majority of the children on the trip. It was a little hard to stay focused at times but the children all came back to school saying how much they had loved the trip and that the show had been amazing. A special thank you to Jesse’s mum and Fifi’s dad for accompanying the staff on the trip.
