The Winter’s Tale
On Thursday, I was lucky enough to take a group of 44 children from years 3-6 to the National Theatre to watch a performance of Shakespeare’s The Winter’s Tale. The show was specifically designed to be accessible for 8-12 year olds but still featured much of Shakespeare’s original language. I was really impressed to see how our students were able to decipher the plot and understand the characters.
The play follows the story of Perdita, a princess, who discovers the truth about her heritage as the show progresses. The Winter’s Tale, which was written around 1610, deals with many issues relevant for adults and children today including jealousy, friendship and forgiveness.
The children’s behaviour was exemplary on the trip as they sat enthralled throughout the performance. Thank you to the children for their enthusiasm and the parent helpers for making the trip such a great success.
