Autism Awareness Week
We have been really lucky this week to welcome three visitors from the wider Chobham community to help us raise awareness about autism which affects how people perceive the world and interact with others. During Mrs Gibson’s assemblies on Monday, we learnt that autistic people can have difficulties with everyday social communication, social interaction, repetitive behaviours and sensory issues. During Monday’s assemblies, we also heard from Phoebe Fretwell who is now in year 7 about how she felt when she was diagnosed with Aspergers in year 6 and how her life has changed since her diagnosis. She also gave us some advice on how we can help Asperger’s children not feel upset or left out. We welcomed Ms Lee-Phakoe and Ms Botsieva into our classrooms to talk about what life is like in a family with an autistic child. Aaliyah in 5C helped her mum deliver the talks - we were so impressed by her presentation, her honesty and her caring attitude. Well done Aaliyah!
