Physics

Scientists have become the bearers of the torch of discovery in our quest for knowledge.
Stephen Hawking

Unlike the other sciences, physics has no limits! Everything in your life, on this planet, other planets, to the far reaches of universe and beyond is in physics’ job description.

The GCSE Physics course offers students the chance to gain a good understanding of:

  • The use and transfer of energy
  • Waves, radiation and space
  • The application of Physics.

The specification is designed to give students the tools and concepts they need to be able to construct a scientific approach to solving problems. Students will learn to ask and answer questions about the fundamental laws that govern natural phenomena. This is done by integrating the 'How Science Works' approach throughout the specification.

Students are likely to be engaged by the aspects of the specification that they can relate to their everyday life such as the efficiency of electrical appliances and braking distances as well as larger concepts like nuclear fission and fusion and evidence of exciting theories such as ‘the Big Bang

The A Level Physics course will prepare students for a career or further study in physics, engineering or one of the other science related areas. . At A-level you will revisit GCSE ideas and see how these topics are linked together as well as grasping the universal principles that apply to everything from the smallest atoms to the largest galaxies.
