What an end to Pride Week here at Chobham!

Harris Academies
All Academies in our Federation aim to transform the lives of the students they serve by bringing about rapid improvement in examination results, personal development and aspiration.

The Governing Body

The Role of Governor

Within England, there are over 300,000 School/Academy Governors, who form the largest volunteer force in the country.

The roles of individual Governors, and subsequently members of a Governing Body, work collectively to perform a strategic role and carry out key functions such as:

  • Discuss and set the aims and objectives for the Academy.
  • Set the required policies for achieving those aims and objectives.
  • Set the required targets for achieving those aims and objectives.
  • Monitor and evaluate the progress that the Academy is making towards it’s set aims and objectives. A separate Finance and General Purposes committee meets termly, reporting to the Full Governing body, their role is to ensure financial compliance and good value for money as well as keep an oversight of buildings and human resources.
  • Finally the role of role of the Academy Governor is to be a source of challenge and support to the Principal, i.e. a 'critical friend.

We're incredibly lucky to have an active Governing body, who take a strategic role in ensuring the Academy provides the best possible provision for our learners.

The Governing Body of Chobham Academy

Chobham Academy is operated by the Harris Federation, a charity with a long and outstanding track record in education, on behalf of the Chobahm Academy trust (see below).  You can click here to read more about the Harris Federation.Click here to view the Harris Federation Governance and Scheme of Delegation.

Chobham Academy is accountable to the Academy Governing Body and is independent from the Local Authority. The Governing Body is responsible for the setting, and subsequent monitoring of targets to be achieved over time.

The Academy Governing Body includes representation from Staff and Parents, as well as our Sponsor Governors.

The Chair of the Academy Governing Body at Chobham Academy is Mr. Alan Bates
The Clerk to the Governing Body is Ms Orli Collins who can be contacted on 0203 747 6060

The Link Governor for Safeguarding is Rev Jeremy Fraser.

Lord Harris of Peckham (Lead Sponsor for Harris Federation):

"I believe that a good education is the most important start in life we can give young people and our intention is that when all students leave, they will be well prepared to succeed in the world – in whatever walk of life they choose."
